OPINION / The Derecho: It Pains Me To Say It But … About Corey Stewart

In keeping with my policy of giving credit when due, regardless how painful it is, I have to give Corey some credit today.  He showed a glimmer of what he used to be during the quick take proceedings this afternoon.

The initiation of the quick take proceeding were ram-rodded through by Wally (with Marty chiming in his support) in conjunction with a dire forecast by the County Transportation Department if the action weren’t initiated.  Come on guys, Corey was willing to settle for a one-week delay and you all blew your opportunity for a little public goodwill.  One week was not going to jeopardize the construction contract or set an evil precedent, in fact, it likely would have saved the County considerable legal expense and potentially more should the Circuit Court not buy their argument or assessment.

My guess is that the property owners were concerned about the implications beyond mere property value that a reduction in property size below ten acres portends for their property, something Wally fully understands as regards the Rural Crescent.  I suppose their concerns, at least in Wally’s view, take a backseat to keeping the soccer folks happy as well as the developers who need Rollins Ford Road completed.  Corey, I have to extend more than a golf clap to you, at least with regard to Eminent Domain, you still (at least for the present) walk the walk.
